Your story.
Your journey.
From the Initial Idea to Your Own Novel Concept
Focus on Your Writing Project
Do you want to write a novel but aren’t quite sure how to get started? Or do you already have some initial ideas and want to develop them into a well-thought-out story?
In my personalized novel-writing workshop, you’ll learn the basics of novel writing and apply them directly to your own project. Together, we’ll develop the characters, plot, conflicts, and the world of your story.
Step by step, this will help you build a solid foundation that will allow you to then start the writing process on your own or continue working on the novel you’ve already begun.
Your 1:1 Novel-Writing Workshop
#1 We develop the foundation of your story.
To start, we’ll take a look at your ideas and concepts. What story do you want to tell? What characters, themes, or settings do you already have in mind? Together, we’ll explore the core of your story and identify what elements are still missing. From there, we’ll develop an initial direction for your novel project and determine what we’ll work on in our upcoming sessions.
#2 You'll learn the craft and develop your concept.
In our sessions, I’ll teach you the basics of novel planning, and we’ll apply them directly to your story. We’ll develop characters, conflicts, plot, and world-building, and explore important narrative techniques. Along the way, you’ll receive expert guidance, practical exercises, and constructive feedback. Between sessions, you’ll continue working on your concept and build on what you’ve learned.
#3 We bring it all together into a novel concept.
Step by step, we’ll bring the individual elements of your story together and check whether the characters, plot, and setting fit together. We’ll clarify any open questions, revise the plot outline, and document the most important decisions. By the end, you’ll have a structured foundation for your project and the basic knowledge you need to then start writing your novel on your own or continue working on it.
What we work on in the 1:1 Novel Workshop
Your idea and the core of your story
We’ll explore your novel idea, the theme, and the central question of your story. You’ll learn how to turn initial ideas into a plot that offers enough conflict and room for character development to sustain a novel.
Characters, Themes, and Conflicts
What drives your main character? What does she want to achieve, and what stands in her way? We’ll develop the main characters, their relationships, and their conflicts, and explore how their decisions influence the plot.
Plot, Dramaturgy, and Structure
You’ll learn about basic models for planning a novel and use them to develop a suitable structure for your story. We’ll work on plot lines, turning points, building suspense, and a clear central theme.
Worldbuilding and Settings
Whether it’s a realistic story, fantasy, or science fiction: every fictional world needs its own internal logic. We develop the settings, rules, and backstories that are important to your plot and examine how they influence your characters’ lives and actions.
Fundamentals of Creative Writing
You’ll learn important storytelling techniques, including narrative perspectives, scene structure, and basic ways to build suspense and set the mood. This will help you understand what matters most when you eventually write your novel.
The end result is your novel concept.
The goal of our collaboration is to lay the foundation for your novel.
Over the course of the novel workshop, you’ll develop your own personal project outline, incorporating the most important elements of your story:
- a fully developed novel idea and a clear central premise
- the main characters, their goals, relationships, and conflicts
- a coherent plot structure with key turning points
-
the key settings, backstories, and rules of your novel’s world
-
fundamental decisions regarding narrative perspective and style
-
a plan that will allow you to continue writing on your own
This way, by the end, you’ll have not only gained theoretical knowledge but also applied it directly to your own story. You’ll know what story you want to tell, what it’s based on, and how to approach the next steps in the writing process.
